Our Story

Pablo Arguello

The artist

My bonsai journey started in the same way that it does for many artists around the world…with a very “inconvenient” gift.

My first tree was a Juniper, procumbens “nana” that most likely was picked up at a Home Depot somewhere. Upon receiving it, I immediately put it in front of a sunny window, watered daily, and took “great care” of it. At least, that’s what I thought. As days passed, the tree started getting brown spots and slowly dying. I had no idea what was going on, so I quickly jumped on the internet to do some research. To my surprise, everything I have been doing was completely wrong! and slowly but surely my beloved juniper perished within a few days. I was very disappointed but intrigued by all the information that was available about Bonsai. I had to build up my confidence before giving it another try. I utilized every resource available from books, YouTube channels, other bonsai artists, blogs, and local bonsai societies. This millennial form of art allowed me to reconnect with nature in a way that I have never experienced before. It opened my eyes to be able to capture and understand its beauty at its most basic level. I knew I had to share this incredible feeling with the rest of the world. Ten years later, NICHIBOTSU BONSAI was born with the intent not only to educate people about Bonsai but also to provide top-quality bonsai, pre bonsai, supplies and services to all people from the enthusiastic beginner to the most advanced master! Everyone is welcome to enjoy this fascinating journey.

…and in case you are wondering, “What’s with the name?” Nichibotsu is the Japanese word for “sunset” which is my favorite time of the day to work on my trees
